A new website design and uplifted experience for Five Elements Spa

The who

Five Elements Spa
A beauty and health spa located in South Melbourne.

My role

UX/WD Designer

Tools

Squarespace, Photoshop

The problem

Five Elements Spa wanted a whole new website look-and-feel, as it felt its website didn’t reflect the overall “high-end” branding it was aiming to position itself with.

Upon closer inspection, there were a number of UX/UI issues with the existing site, including, but not limited to:

  • strange navigation

  • no visible page footer

  • poor colour contrast

  • no use of branding colour palette

  • not all services offered were listed

  • pages that users would think were about the services offered only had information about products used and not about the services themselves

  • any services that were listed linked to the external booking page (hosted on fresha.com). This was the generic Fresha home page and it was up to the user to scroll through all the services listed on the Fresha site page to find the specific service they wanted to book.

  • placeholder text, inconsistent text alignment and missing content.

The solution

  • Proposing a more suitable Squarespace (client’s weapon of choice) template to build the new site on, incorporating a fresh new look and feel based on the actual brand colour palette.

  • Improve navigation by tweaking the IA and site structure.

  • Improve the overall user experience, for example:

    • On the services pages (Body, Face, Spa Packages) I added specific booking links to that service so users can book straight away on fresha.com and not have to manually search for their desired treatment once they land at Fresha.

    • Adding a footer with useful information (contact details, opening hours, links to reviews etc).

    • Introducing customer reviews sprinkled around the site to make it more enticing to new users.

    • Introducing CTA’s at the bottom of pages to keep users inside the website and encourage further site exploration.

The outcome

Five Elements Spa now has a brand new website - www.fiveelementsspa.com.au. I’ve been told by the client he has regular compliments on the website and that he’s noticed a genuine increase in new client bookings since the website update.

Since the website project, I have also created in-store printed posters and digital promotional flyers (displayed on the TV screen in the spa lobby).
